Lovelace/UNM EP Fellowship Program

The UNM/Lovelace Medical Center Clinical Electrophysiology Fellowship is a comprehensive two-year ACGME-accredited program. Our fellowship provides extensive exposure to a wide and diverse range of cardiac electrophysiology pathologies. Recognizing the highly technical nature of the field, our aim is to provide fellows with a rigorous, focused, and undiluted clinical and procedural training experience.

Program Description:

Our program spans two training campuses: Heart Hospital of New Mexico Lovelace Medical Center and the University of New Mexico Hospital. Fellows have the opportunity to rotate through both campuses.

Heart Hospital of New Mexico Lovelace Medical Center features three dedicated electrophysiology labs, including two labs with biplane fluoroscopy and one newly built lab equipped with the latest mapping software system/equipment. Additionally, there is a hybrid lab with EP capability.

The University of New Mexico Hospital has its own dedicated electrophysiology lab for ablations and devices. Our team consists of five experienced electrophysiology faculty who work closely with fellows.

We also have dedicated advanced practice providers (PAs and NPs) who assist with inpatient and outpatient care.

Our annual procedure volume exceeds 1600 ablations and 700 device implantations.

During the first year of training, fellows can expect to achieve competency in common procedures. There are opportunities to participate in a wide variety of novel/advanced procedures, including leadless pacemaker implantation, His-bundle/left bundle pacing, left atrial appendage occlusion device implantation, cardio neural ablation, lead/device extraction, and epicardial access/ablation.
